2023 Regular Local Election
The Regular Local Election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, for the purpose of electing two at-large elective offices:
- One Councilmember, for a four-year term
Commencing January 1, 2024 - One Councilmember, for a four-year term
Commencing January 1, 2024
The Town of Taos "opted-in" to the Local Election Act in 2022 adopted by Ordinance 22-02 and is no longer responsible for running the election. The 2023 Regular Local Election is conducted by the Taos County Clerk’s Office.

Declaration of Candidacy
Declaration of Candidacy shall be filed with the Taos County Clerk on August 29, 2023, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Taos County Court House, 105 Albright Street, Suite D, Taos, New Mexico. Declaration of Candidacy Form
Write-in candidates shall file a Declaration of Candidacy with the County Clerk between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on September 5, 2023, at the Taos County Court House, 105 Albright Street, Suite D, Taos New Mexico. Intent to be a Write-In Candidate Form
Each Declaration of Candidacy shall be filled in person or by an authorized individual on behalf of the prospective candidate. Written Authorization for Designation Form
Last day to withdraw candidacy – September 5, 2023. Affidavit of Withdrawal of Candidacy Form

Candidate Qualifications Challenges (§1-22-10)
Any voter may challenge the candidacy of any person seeking election for the reason that the person does not meet the requirements for the office sought by filing a petition in the district court within seven (7) days after the day for filing a declaration of candidacy. The district court shall hear and render a decision on the matter within ten (10) days after the filing of the petition. The decision of the district court may be appealed to the supreme court within five (5) days after the decision is rendered. The supreme court shall hear and render a decision on the appeal forthwith.
Eligibility to Vote for the Purpose of Electing Town of Taos Elective Offices
In accordance with state statute, to be eligible to vote, a person must be a resident and registered to vote within the municipal boundaries. To vote you must be registered to vote within 28 days before an election (Section 1-4-8, NMSA 1978).
