  1. Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Party

    March 3, 2023, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
    @

The National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day, which celebrates Dr. Seuss’s Birthday and the joys of reading, expects more than 45 million readers, both young and old, to pick up a book and read.

To celebrate the fun and value of reading, the Town of Taos and sponsors are asking you to join NEA and many of America’s leading literacy, youth, and civic groups in bringing a nation of readers together under one hat, the red and white stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat, for a flurry of reading excitement!

The Free Birthday Party for Dr. Seuss is Friday, March 3, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Taos Youth & Family Center located at 407 Paseo del Canon East for children of all ages.  Children attending the party will receive a children’s book and reading backpack (while supplies last).  Special guests will be The Cat in the Hat, The Grinch, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Thing 1 and 2.  Dress up as your favorite Dr. Seuss Character for a chance to win a prize!  The first 10 children will receive a prize.

The Storytime schedule is as follows:  reading of Green Eggs and Ham by Melissa Quintana, Taos Municipal Schools SRCL Literacy Coach, reading of Huveos Verdes Con Jamon by Dr. Gladys Herrera-Gurulé, Taos Municipal Schools District Family Engagement Coordinator, reading of There's No Place Like Space: All about Our Solar System, and reading of NEA’s Read Across America Proclamation by Mayor Pascualito Maestas.  Participants will sing Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss and enjoy birthday cookies.

Ongoing activities include balloon animals, bowling, craft making, face painting, games and much, much more. Our goal is to show America’s children the joy of reading and building a nation of readers on or about Dr. Seuss’s Birthday and every day. You do not would not want to miss … a birthday party as fun as this!

The event is sponsored by Friends of the Public Library, Harwood Museum of Art, Metaphysicalee, Taos Academy Charter School National Honor Society, Taos Municipal Schools SRCL Grant Literacy Coaches, Taos Youth & Family Center, The Espresso Bar, T-Mobile Retail Store, Twirl, a Play and Discovery Space Inc., and Town of Taos Community Events.
